The Gold Coast section of the Near North Side took shape after 1885, when merchant Potter Palmer built a lakefront mansion on Lake Shore Drive that drew Chicago's wealthy north from Prairie Avenue. ## What Near North Side does to a home appliance. High-rise apartment and condominium towers line Michigan Avenue and the lakefront here, one of the densest residential skylines in the city, alongside Victorian-era mansions preserved in Old Town and the Gold Coast Historic District. The Cabrini-Green public housing towers, once home to about 15,000 subsidized tenants, were demolished between 2000 and 2011 and replaced with new residential development. Goose Island's southern end shifted from industrial buildings to condominiums, townhouses and apartments as the surrounding Near North Side redeveloped. [All of Chicago](https://appliancemaintenance.center/locations/chicagoland/) ### Tower living A leak in a tower runs downhill through the neighbors' ceilings, so upkeep there puts supply hoses, the ice maker's water line and the dish-care drain connection first, with the shutoff valve for each one located and turned while nothing is wrong. ### Apartments and small homes Apartments with a stacked laundry pair in a closet trap heat and damp around both machines, so the closet door's louvers, the lint screen housing and the washer's door seal all get attention when upkeep is booked there. ### Built-in and paneled suites Heavy custom door panels load the hinges of built-in refrigerators and dishwashers over the years, so an upkeep visit checks hinge tension and door alignment, since a door that sags no longer presses its gasket evenly. ## A visit in Near North Side.
