The Heights was platted in 1891 by Oscar Martin Carter's Omaha and South Texas Land Company on 1,756 acres, laid out as a streetcar suburb with its own streets, parks, schools and utilities from the start. ## What Greater Heights does to a home appliance. Many homes here date from the early 1900s, and roughly 100 properties gained National Register of Historic Places status between 1980 and 2017. A postwar decline saw many original single-family homes subdivided into apartments, leaving the area visibly run down by the 1970s before renovation took hold from the 1990s onward. Since the 1990s, young buyers renovating century-old bungalows alongside new infill construction have reshaped a neighborhood that had been allowed to deteriorate for decades. [All of Houston](https://appliancemaintenance.center/locations/houston/) ### Older housing stock Plaster walls, floors that are no longer quite level and narrow doorways make an old house hard on appliances, so leveling feet are adjusted, doors are checked for an even seal, and a heavy unit is never pulled out farther than the floor can take. ### Apartments and small homes In a small kitchen the refrigerator often stands with its back to a wall and its sides boxed in by cabinets, and a maintenance visit there measures the air gap the maker calls for and clears whatever has crept into it before cleaning the coil. ### Mixed housing Where some houses have been rebuilt and others kept, a service log helps a new owner learn how the appliances were cared for, and a maintenance visit starts one when the house has none. ## A visit in Greater Heights.
