Point Loma's Roseville area was settled more than a century ago by Portuguese fishermen and fishing-boat owners, one of the peninsula's oldest residential pockets. ## What Point Loma does to a home appliance. The Navy has controlled roughly 1,800 acres of the peninsula since land was first set aside for military use in 1852, and installations there now employ about 48,000 military and civilian personnel. A levee redirected the San Diego River into the bay in 1877, ending the flooding that had once isolated Point Loma from the rest of the city. The peninsula's western cliffs are made of unstable sandstone, a geology that shapes both the views tourists come for and the erosion risk homes near the bluff face over time. [All of San Diego](https://appliancemaintenance.center/locations/san-diego/) ### On the water A home near salt water opens its doors to beach traffic, and sand in towels and on feet ends up in washer drain filters and door seals, which are flushed and wiped more often there than inland. ### Older housing stock Older houses were not built around modern appliances, and a dryer or a hood there may exhaust through an opening cut decades ago in a thick wall, so upkeep traces that path to the outside and cleans it from end to end. ### Mixed housing Where some houses have been rebuilt and others kept, a service log helps a new owner learn how the appliances were cared for, and a maintenance visit starts one when the house has none. ## A visit in Point Loma.
