Every sealed appliance door relies on a gasket pressed evenly against a frame. On cold storage the gasket is flexible vinyl with a magnet inside; on an oven it is a woven fiberglass or silicone tube; on a dishwasher it is a rubber strip around the tub and a lower seal under the door; on a front-loading washer it is the rubber boot that the door glass presses into. All of them fail the same slow way. They flatten where the door hinges and folds them thousands of times, they gather grease and grit where hands reach, they tear at a corner or pull out of their track, and the door itself sags on worn hinges or a cabinet that has settled. The results depend on the appliance: frost and long running in a freezer, sweat on the refrigerator door frame, uneven baking and hot knobs on an oven, water on the floor under a dishwasher, drips from a front-loader's door.
