What Broward County does
to a home appliance.
Where home appliances sit in Broward County: newer developments, gated communities, family houses.
All of Miami / South FloridaNewer developments
Builder installs sometimes take the shortest route for a dryer exhaust or use a plastic transition hose, and the first maintenance visit in a new house checks that path and swaps anything flimsy for rigid metal.
Gated communities
Where a house manager or caretaker runs the property, the service log from each maintenance visit goes to them, with filter dates, hose ages and anything to watch written out plainly.
Family houses
A family keeps up with its appliances more easily when one visit covers them all, and a written list of filter dates, hose ages and small notes helps the household between visits.

Weston
Weston began as a master-planned community after industrialist Arthur Vining Davis acquired roughly 15,000 acres in the 1950s, though the first homes in its Arvida-developed sections weren't completed until 1984.
Cooper City
Cooper City incorporated in 1959 and grew from 550 residents in 1960 to over 34,000 by 2020, with a 2006 annexation of the old Waldrep Dairy Farm adding some of its newest residential land.
Coral Springs
Coral Springs was chartered in 1963 as a master-planned city built by Coral Ridge Properties, which set strict landscaping and sign rules from the start and reached full residential build-out by 2003.
Davie
Davie was first incorporated in 1925 around land developer Robert Parsell Davie reclaimed from swamp, and horseback riding remains common enough that many of its older buildings are ranches and Western-style structures.
Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale incorporated in 1911 and grew into "the Venice of America," with 165 miles of inland waterways lining much of its residential housing stock.
Hollywood
Hollywood, Florida was platted in 1921 and incorporated in 1925 during the state's land boom, then suffered damage in the 1926 Miami hurricane described as second only to Miami itself.
Lighthouse Point
Lighthouse Point became a city in 1957 after canals dug through the 1950s and 60s turned most of its 2.39 square miles into waterfront lots suited to boating.
Miramar
Miramar incorporated in 1955 and was named for the Miramar district of Havana, then grew nearly tenfold in population between 1970 and 2000 as its housing stock filled in.
Parkland
Parkland incorporated in 1963 as a deliberately undeveloped town, and for its first decade horses actually outnumbered residents under zoning meant to protect its "park-like" character.
Pembroke Pines
Pembroke Pines grew out of former dairy farmland and reached city status in 1961, then saw explosive growth in the 1990s as thousands of Hurricane Andrew survivors from Miami-Dade moved north into the city.
Plantation
Plantation became a city in 1953, and its first homes, built starting in 1947 on one-acre lots, were badly damaged by 93 consecutive days of rain and two hurricanes before the developer personally funded repairs.
Pompano Beach
Pompano Beach was a town by 1908 and merged with a separate beach municipality to become a city in 1947, sitting along the Hillsboro Canal that helped define Broward County's original boundary.
Southwest Ranches
Southwest Ranches incorporated only in 2000 specifically to avoid annexation by Pembroke Pines, and its ordinances still require most lots to be an acre or larger with no streetlights or sidewalks.
