What Fort Bend County does
to a home appliance.
Where home appliances sit in Fort Bend County: newer developments, family houses, second units and spares.
All of HoustonNewer developments
New houses are built tight, and a kitchen hood and a dryer both pushing air out of a sealed house work harder, so their filters and exhaust paths are kept clean to let them move the air they were rated for.
Family houses
A family keeps up with its appliances more easily when one visit covers them all, and a written list of filter dates, hose ages and small notes helps the household between visits.
Second units and spares
Houses with a second dishwasher, oven or laundry pair double the filters, seals and hoses to keep up with, and a maintenance plan there lists each unit on its own so the one used only on holidays is not forgotten.

Cinco Ranch
Cinco Ranch was a private hunting preserve until it sold in 1984, then sat largely undeveloped through the late 1980s during Houston's oil-driven downturn before opening in 1991 with just 35 homes sold and 110 more under construction.
Sugar Land
Sugar Land's master-planned subdivisions hold streets of houses built in the same years with the same builder appliances, so hoses, gaskets and filters come due at about the same time on neighboring houses, and a maintenance plan there follows that shared clock.
Fulshear
Fulshear was platted in 1890 around a rail depot and by 1898 had eleven stores, three saloons, a school and a hotel, but did not incorporate as a city until 1977, and most of its housing dates to the rapid growth that began in the 2000s.
Katy
Katy took its name from the MKT "Katy" Railroad and grew as a rice, cotton and corn farming town until Interstate 10's 1966 opening ended passenger rail through the area and drew westward suburban growth instead.
Missouri City
Missouri City grew from an 1890s railroad settlement into a city only in 1956, and it now sits mostly in Fort Bend County with a small portion crossing into Harris County.
Richmond
Richmond was established in 1822 near a fort built by early Stephen F. Austin colonists and became the Fort Bend County seat, giving it one of the older housing cores in the county amid newer surrounding subdivisions.
Sienna
Sienna sits on former plantation land that later served as a religious retreat center through the 1950s and 60s, and its first homes as a master-planned community were not sold until 1996.
