What Harris County does
to a home appliance.

Where home appliances sit in Harris County: family houses, built-in and paneled suites, homes that host.

All of Houston

Family houses

Children, pets and sports gear load a family's appliances with hair, grass and mud, which reach refrigerator coils and washer drain filters first, and those are cleaned on each visit.

Built-in and paneled suites

Heavy custom door panels load the hinges of built-in refrigerators and dishwashers over the years, so an upkeep visit checks hinge tension and door alignment, since a door that sags no longer presses its gasket evenly.

Homes that host

Homes that entertain run every appliance at once on a party night, ovens, burners, the ice maker and the dishwasher, and a maintenance visit before the busy season makes sure filters, burners and seals are ready for the load.

Bellaire

Bellaire was founded in 1908 on former ranch land and incorporated in 1918 with just 200 residents, then grew to more than 10,000 residents by 1950 in the postwar boom.

Bunker Hill Village

German farmers settled the area and ran sawmills before Bunker Hill Village incorporated in December 1954, a move that kept the area outside Houston's city limits.

Greater Heights

The Heights was platted in 1891 by Oscar Martin Carter's Omaha and South Texas Land Company on 1,756 acres, laid out as a streetcar suburb with its own streets, parks, schools and utilities from the start.

Hunters Creek Village

Hunters Creek Village grew out of a German farming settlement with sawmills before incorporating in 1954, a step that kept it outside Houston's city limits.

Kingwood

Kingwood opened its first village in 1971 as a joint venture between King Ranch and Friendswood Development Company, marketed under the slogan "The Livable Forest."

Memorial

Memorial's tall pines and hardwoods shed pollen, needles and leaves all year, and they reach dryer outlets and the grilles of garage freezers and patio refrigerators, so coils and exhaust flaps there are cleared of that debris on every visit.

Piney Point Village

Piney Point Village grew up around a rail station German farmers settled near in 1885, then incorporated as a city in 1955 specifically to keep Houston from annexing the area.

River Oaks

River Oaks houses are often large rebuilds with a main kitchen, a catering kitchen and a laundry upstairs by the bedrooms, and an upstairs washer there has its supply hoses and drain pan checked on every visit, since a leak finds the ceiling below.

Tanglewood

Tanglewood was developed by William Giddings Farrington starting in the 1930s and officially opened in 1949, with its earliest homes built as sprawling one-story Ranch houses on generous lots.

West University

West University's newer two-story houses on narrow lots often put the laundry upstairs and send the dryer exhaust up to the roof, a long run that lint fills in a year, so the duct and roof cap are cleaned there and the hoses behind the washer checked in the same visit.
