Appliance maintenance in West University.
West University's newer two-story houses on narrow lots often put the laundry upstairs and send the dryer exhaust up to the roof, a long run that lint fills in a year, so the duct and roof cap are cleaned there and the hoses behind the washer checked in the same visit.

What West University does
to a home appliance.
West University Place was platted by Ben Hooper starting in 1917, with the city incorporating in January 1924 mainly to secure its own utility service after Houston refused to extend power lines there.
Its earliest houses were modest mid-20th-century bungalows and cottages on lots roughly 50 by 120 feet, tight even by the standards of the surrounding area.
Between 1987 and 2002, roughly half of the neighborhood's existing houses were torn down and replaced, mostly with larger, lot-hugging Georgian-style homes, after the city loosened development rules before 1992.
Also known as West University Place.
All of HoustonFamily houses
A family house runs its washer, dryer and dishwasher most days, and that steady use fills lint paths, drain filters and dish-care filters faster than the manuals assume, so upkeep there follows how often the machines really run.
Mixed housing
In an older house with a new kitchen the appliances may be modern while the hoses, drains and exhaust runs behind them are old, so upkeep checks what connects to them as carefully as the appliances themselves.
Apartments and small homes
In a small kitchen the refrigerator often stands with its back to a wall and its sides boxed in by cabinets, and a maintenance visit there measures the air gap the maker calls for and clears whatever has crept into it before cleaning the coil.

When a home appliance
cannot wait in West University.
In West University as anywhere, these five signs mean upkeep has waited too long and a hazard has started in the home, so the appliance stays off until it is looked at: a hot or burning-lint smell from the laundry, a gas smell at a cooking appliance, a supply hose leaking or bulging, a burning electrical smell, and a breaker that trips when the appliance runs.
