What CL
actually means.
Viking's 7 Series integrated cold-storage columns keep a running clock and light CL about every six months as a standing reminder, not because a sensor measured dust on the coil. The unit keeps running normally while CL is showing.

What to do when CL shows on the home applianceKind of codeReminders, not failures
Nothing has broken; the appliance has been counting hours, cycles or gallons and is asking for its routine care. A refrigerator lights a filter icon after about six months of water, a front-load washer suggests a tub-clean cycle after a set number of loads, a steam oven or a dishwasher asks for descaling or rinse aid, and some dryers remind you to check the exhaust. Do the task the reminder names, reset it the way the manual describes, and write the date in the service record.

Shows up asCold Storage Running Nonstop: Coil Dust, Clearance and Door Seals
Cold storage running nonstop is a refrigerator, freezer, wine or beverage unit that hums without the usual quiet breaks, often with warm cabinet sides and a higher power bill.
MakeViking
Viking kitchens tend to mix heavy gas cooking with built-in cold storage, so a visit splits its time between burner ports and hood filters and the refrigerator's coil.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Viking's own guidance for CL on its home appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Cut power at the switch behind the top access panel before opening anything.
Remove the lower drawer, the kick plate and the access panel to reach the coil face.
Vacuum the fins gently with a brush attachment; Viking specifically warns against a feather duster, since it can bend the fins.
Restore power, then hold the two arrow keys together for three seconds to clear CL.
Cleared?
The reminder is gone from the display, the filter, the screen or the tub has been cleaned or swapped, and the appliance runs a full cycle without calling for it again. A clean-filter light or a descale prompt that returns in days rather than months usually means the part it watches is fouling faster than normal, so mention that when you book.
What not to do
CL is a scheduled reminder, not a sign the coil has been measured as dirty or that cooling has failed. A unit that runs warm even after a clean coil needs a technician, not another vacuuming.

Cold storage
Upkeep for everything in the house that keeps things cold: refrigerators, freezers, wine and beverage units and ice makers, cleaned and checked before they start struggling.
Cooking appliances
Upkeep for ovens, ranges, cooktops, hoods, microwaves, steam and speed ovens: burners and igniters cleaned, gas joints checked, grease filters and descaling done on time.
Dish care
Upkeep for dishwashers and disposers: filters rinsed, spray arms cleared, the door seal and drain loop checked, and hard-water scale kept off the parts that heat and spray.
In Viking's own words
The refrigerator temperature display will be blinking “CL” to indicate that it is time to clean the condenser coil.

A booking goes further when it has the reminder or code as shown, the model number from the rating plate, and a word on when that filter, screen or tub was last cleaned. With those three, the office can pack the right filter or cleaner for your appliance.
